Volunteer with PCRS
|
Our 2007 Volunteer of the Year
Allison Holmes |

We invite all who are
interested to volunteer to help us. You may contact us for more information,
or schedule a time for one of us to come and provide your group with a free
slide presentation on our restoration project and opportunities to
participate in hands-on restoration. This presentation will inform your
group about the area’s native plants and how these plants are important to
the stream. You will also be invited to come out to the Creek and engage in
hands-on restoration, which will include eradicating invasive plants and
planting native vegetation that birds, wildlife, and fish need to survive.
So join with us at Puget Creek Restoration Society and help to restore one
of Tacoma's natural jewels, Puget Creek/Puget
Gulch.
All
events and activities listed on the Calendar are open to full participation
by all individuals.
Of
possible interest to elementary, middle, and high school teachers is that we
have some funding for transporting students by bus to Puget Creek to help in
restoration projects. So if you would you’re your class to participate but
don’t have funding for bus transportation, contact us.
Second
Saturday Events
Join us on one of our Second Saturday monthly events that
start at 9:00 AM and end at 12:00 noon. Or schedule another time to
participate in restoration work or other endeavor associated with the Puget
Creek Restoration Society by contacting Scott Hansen at
pugetcreek@yahoo.com
or (253)
779-8890.
HELP
Also
from time to time you will see "HELP"
on an event. This means we could use a crew leader or other help for that
event. For you folks who are resume-building, or those who just like
leading people, this could be an opportunity to gain experience in
supervising a crew of 5-10 people during an event. It’s a great way to get
to know people as well.
Committee Members Needed
We have
three committees that
are open for the public to join and help in the direction of PCRS activities
(Nearshore/Terrestrial; Education/Membership; and Fundraising/Grant
Writing).
Board of Directors Positions
Currently, we have positions on our Board of Directors, so come out and
help direct, guide, and make decisions in your favorite organization.
Office Help
We also
have opportunities to help out in the office with many chores: filing, data
entry, brochure-folding, sign-painting, button-making, and other duties. If
you can help, email Scott Hansen at
pugetcreek@yahoo.com.
Internships
We are
offering internships (non-paid) to high school and college students in the
fields of stream/habitat studies, volunteer coordination, GIS (with prior
knowledge of GIS), office management and other fields of potential interest
to students.
We have
research opportunities for those interested in areas that we are involved
in.
Membership
We are
in a membership drive at this time. A membership is only $15.00 for an
individual and $25.00 for a family, for one year. Members receive our
newsletter; "From the Park to the Sound: A Guidebook to Puget Creek,” and
other amenities along with knowing you are helping a nonprofit organization
to restore an important urban habitat.
All contributions (whether
money or goods) to PCRS are tax-deductible, as we are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit
organization.
