Diversion Ditches

In the upper Gulch, there are areas at the toe of the slope where water seeps out and flows down the trail, impacting the surface and causing erosion, and eventually carrying sediment into the stream and wetlands.

With the help of the Boy Scouts, we* have created four diversion ditches for the collection of run-off water. These diversion ditches, located at certain sections of the trail, make it easier for people to walk through the watershed by cutting down on the mud that accumulates on the trail.

The diversion ditches are created by laying a perforated pipe in a ditch and allowing it to fill with water. The diversion ditches will help to stop erosion and provide better accessibility for visitors.
