The
Sand Lance is a herring-like species that spawns on sandy
portions of the Puget Creek Beach. We expect to begin a study
that will document the
population of the sandlance and how it
uses the beach. The methodology would include sampling the sand
between the months of November and February in a prescribed
manner and documenting the number of eggs we find. We hope to
include some underwater camera placement to capture some of the
Sand Lance on video. The biggest obstacle will be that the
Sand Lance only show themselves when it is dark, which makes it
more difficult to document them on camera.
