In 1997,
Scott Hansen, a founder of PCRS, began monitoring the Puget
Creek Beach while working with the Pierce County Water Programs
through Citizen Shoreline Inventory. By 2002, Citizens for a
Healthy Bay (CHB) had partnered with PCRS and volunteers from
the Adopt-a-Wildlife-Area Program in monitoring Puget Creek
Beach.
In 2004,
PCRS began monitoring the beach as a solo project. Methodology
includes a monthly monitoring of changes to the beach,
documenting wildlife, and taking "photo point" pictures
(pictures taken from the same location and direction) to
document the area. We are currently developing a more detailed
protocol for our volunteers to use while monitoring the beach
between C.J. Shenanigans and Katie Downs restaurants.
